
About Me
Harlee Castro Balajadia is a Long Beach native and accomplished tenor vocalist, music educator, and arts administrator. He graduated from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University of Long Beach with dual degrees in Vocal Performance and Choral/Vocal Music Education. Harlee’s versatile performance portfolio includes solo renditions of works such as "The Blessing" by Heather Sorenson and "Every Praise" by Richard Smallwood, showcasing his dedication to his craft.
In his role as Director of Choral/Vocal/Music Appreciation Activities at Charles Evans Hughes Middle School in the Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) since 2020, Harlee has been instrumental in nurturing young talent and enhancing the school's music department. His leadership in choral, vocal, and music appreciation programs has fostered a love for music among middle school students.
Harlee also holds significant positions within various musical organizations. As the Chaperone Coordinator for the California Choral Directors Association (CCDA) at CASMEC 2025, he ensures smooth operations and participant safety. His experience with CCDA includes roles as Ensemble Manager for the All State Jr. High SATB Ensemble at CASMEC 2024 and chaperone in 2022. Additionally, he directs social equity programs through music as the LB Program Director and Manager for Voices for Social Justice.
In the realm of vocal jazz, Harlee contributes to the Vocal Jazz Academy by managing operations and registration. He also coordinates performances and engagements as the Gig Lead for The Candlelight Carolers. His administrative skills extend to managing community relations for The Filharmonic Entertainment and overseeing social media for Choral Audacity, enhancing the visibility and outreach of these ensembles.
Harlee's diverse experience includes serving as Section Leader and Director On Call at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church of Long Beach from 2018 to 2023. He continues to be an active performer with groups like the Long Beach Camerata Singers, Choral Arts Initiative, and The Filharmonic. His unwavering passion for music and his ability to lead and inspire make him a respected figure in the arts community.
